As the roomba knockoff thing gets stuck in the same place in my house (again), I’m reminded it’s Groundhog Day (again). The fact that winter will continue for 6 more weeks (again) is thus unsurprising. Meh.
What is also unsurprising is children grow up, and may be heading off to college in a few years. If you, gentle readers, find yourself in this position, or have family, friends, colleagues or even relative strangers in your life who will be dealing with this situation in the next few years, check out this SubStack for tips and direction regarding the many scholarship opportunities that may be available:
Dave’s SubStack has a paid component for tips and suggestions for winning the scholarship he currently highlights, but eligibility details and requirements about them as well as a link to each is available to free subscribers. Check him out!
For today, a veritable plethora of links:
Got a song out there? Or just about to? Or thinking about it? Here are a couple of places to consider:
Bandcamp is kind of (and kinda not) like an EBay for musicians. It’s a place to sell your merch and tell the world about yourself. Worth checking out.
Bandzoogle is kinda like (and kinda not like) Bandcamp. As I understand it, Bandzoogle is a place to create your own website to do what you can do on Bandcamp. Looks like you may have more customization options here, but I’m not on either one, so you definitely need to check both out for yourself - and you could end up on both of them I suppose. Your mileage may vary.
Some interesting links from Carvin Audio. As I’ve said before, I’m a big fan of Carvin stuff, and while everyone has their own Ford vs Chevy or whatever preferences, they’re worth checking out for gear, and they, like everyone else, don’t compensate me in any way for saying so.
Overdrive Pedals Just because you play an acoustic guitar doesn’t mean you can’t use pedals and stuff. This article is more “geared” (see what I did there?) toward playing electric guitars (which you should also be playing sometimes, at least), but interesting.
Amping Acoustic Guitars This may be a repeat link from a past Michael Acoustic, but if you can amp, you should amp, IMHO.
More Effective Practice And who can’t use more effective practice?
Using A Slide - Interesting article highlighting my favorite Beatle (everyone has one, mine’s George Harrison) and slides from Thalia Capos - they make nice capos and slides and a bunch of other stuff. Kind pricey, and not my preferred capos (again, a Ford-Chevy thing, and I do own one of theirs - a kinda flashy one at that), but definitely worth checking out. Apparently they’ve just returned to posting articles on their site, that may be worth a look as well.
From Mr. Griff Hamlin at Blues Guitar Unleashed, always interesting stuff:
Pentatonic Sounds And 7th Chord Arpeggios
Finally for this Groundhog Day, a couple of interesting links from the Discmakers Blog:
Co-write Splits It’s the money that matters…
Build A Fanbase This kinda goes with the Bandcamp and Bandzoogle links above.
Regular post tomorrow!
Cheers and keep playing!!

Thanks for the shoutout, brother! I love your substack! I'm such a music nerd, and your inside info is fascinating. Keep up the great work!
