I just posted some information about the new “Chat” feature on SubStack. Bad News: It’s only available (for now) for iOS (iPhone) users as an addition to the app. Good News: Android app Chat feature coming soon! Don’t Know News: I’m not sure if it’s available, or will be available, on the website - but I’ll be asking!
Some info: Any subscriber (with the iPhone app for now) can post a response in the chat feature to chats I initiate there. Whatever you post there will be visible to all subscribers, so use it to connect with me and others as you wish, many of whom have their own SubStacks you may be interested in.
Some questions I’ll be asking SubStack support: Can subscribers post images or audio'/video files (.mp3, .m4a, .aiff, etc) on the chat board? (Answer - yes to images and emojis, no so far to audio files - I’ll be asking about it). This might be handy if you or I want to post an audio file of a song you’re working on, and my only rule (other than please keep stuff to a PG or PG13 level and no fightin’) about it would be that you include copyright information so there is no question about ownership (even if you haven’t officially registered with the US Copyright Office). The format (and I’ll post this in the Chat I open for this purpose if audio files can be posted) is
“© Copyright (Year) (Your name or business entity name), All Rights Reserved”.
For instance, mine look like this: “© Copyright 202x, 10 Songs Music LLC, All Rights Reserved”, and if I post my audio files or lyrics anywhere, I include the statement - it’s a good habit to get into. Hope to see you on SubStack Chat!
So for today, some links to things I think you might find interesting:
First, if you have a song ready, or getting ready, for release via your Publishing Admin service and Distributor, some dates that may be helpful, especially if your accountant would like to see some song sales so you can begin to depreciate all that expensive gear you’ve accumulated on your tax return next year. I’m not an accountant, (so this isn’t accounting or legal advice - Hello, IRS!) but I know one, and he’s pretty smart about this stuff when preparing my taxes.
Next, if you’re fingerpicking guitar or thinking of getting into that style of playing (it’s addictive! I almost exclusively fingerpick now) here’s some technique help from our friends at Acoustic Guitar Magazine - but your local guitar instructor is your best source to put it into “practice” (see what I did there?).

Griff Hamlin has a cool lick that may be helpful for playing in 12-bar blues style on the acoustic:

A cool story-form article about collabing with others to write songs from the Songtown site:
A lot of great information in a 4-part series from CD Baby:

Finally, if you can - check out my first chat on the new feature for a hint about what I hope to have for you in the very near future - if you can’t access Chat yet, I’ll include the hint in tomorrow’s regular post.
Cheers and keep playing!!
