New Post Tomorrow!!
Last Week’s Bonus Round: Goo Goo Dolls, “Better Days” is a hopeful song about, yep, a desire for better times ahead!
For tomorrow, I think we’ll tidy up some loose ends, then begin to loop back on some core themes. We’ve pretty much explored the basics of your guitar, music theory as a “language” among musicians (especially your band mates!!), and the beginnings of songwriting (at least some of the technical aspects). For the next couple of weeks I want to explore the less technical, more conceptual and emotional origins of inspiration in combining music and lyrics. Even if you’re not particularly interested in writing your own lyrics or music, this may be a good exercise in thinking through how to approach performing a song with others, or for others.
We’ll take a last look (at least for awhile) at the Circle of Fifths and counting (sorta - we’ll talk about metronomes and “clicks”), and focus on less tangible and more subjective areas. It’ll be fun!!
Bonus Round: Name one of the true old time “bluesmen”, who saw his popularity in the 30s and 40s wane, only to be “rediscovered” in 50s and 60s as blues based music became mainstream. Hint: he (reluctantly) used the name of a state as part of his stage name.
See you tomorrow!!
Cheers, and keep playing!!
