What’s in the bag?

Last week’s Bonus Round: Melanie’s 1970 “B-side” song “"What Have They Done to My Song Ma". Melanie has a beautiful and very distinctive quavering voice. Many of us know the song as “Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma”, and it was covered by many other artists using that title. Apparently, it’s even listed on her website now with the different title, and it’s definitely the hook in the lyrics. That’s a great example of how some songs evolve over time, even after being released.

Over the last few weeks we’ve taken a silly song from a bit of inspiration, through phrasing and lyric changes, to adding chords and a resulting “song”, such as it is. It’s been a cold, wintery week here in the country’s upper left corner, the world seems to be going kinda nuts, and I’m still working on those ever popular “joys of home ownership” projects, so I haven’t figured out how to insert an audio file yet. Probably not a great loss at all.😂

For tomorrow: We have a song! Ignoring the finer points of whether my efforts over the last couple of weeks resulted in anything of commercial value (hint: nope), what would we do now if it did have some serious merit? Tomorrow we’ll look at what next steps I would take with it, and the world I’d be entering if I did.

Bonus Round: A song by one of the most famous bands in history that some have interpreted as an insult to their manager.
