First, a bit of a mea culpa - last week’s Bonus Rounds were pretty obscure. Thursday’s subtitle clue was “It’s not the planet..” - if that clue made you think of the B-52s’ 1979 song “Planet Clare”, you were halfway there - it was St. Patrick’s Day, and the late Nanci Griffith’s cover of the song “From Clare To Here” seemed a good choice.
Last Friday, I was whining around about barre chords, but I wasn’t “THAT” sorry about it. If I was, I would be “A Man Of Constant Sorrow”, a song from the early 1900s, renamed and remade, and covered many times by many artists, perhaps most famously by Bob Dylan on his eponymous 1962 album.
For tomorrow, and in the weeks ahead, I want to return to more of the guitar focused posts since that’s kinda foundational to this SubStack and I feel like I’ve moved a bit too quickly away from that foundation in guitar and the actual music in favor of processes like lyric and songwriting and copyright and “the business”. I also have a couple of interview/guest writer invites out there that may or may not work out. If they do, I’ll intersperse them with the regular stuff. In retrospect, I’m viewing the last 6 months or so of this as a kind of detailed “overview” of things we could cover in far more depth, without limiting content to what we’ve already covered. As always, if there’s something in particular you have a question about, or something that needs more explanation, leave a comment and I’ll respond.
Having said that, I’ll continue to post links to topics we’ve already covered in the Thursday and Friday posts that I think will be illuminating or helpful, or that just make me laugh.
For tomorrow, let’s get back to one of the basics of guitar playing - the ever popular “practice” topic, and why it doesn’t have to be a chore!
Bonus Round: A beautiful song about where you could go, but never be far away….
This is probably also pretty obscure, but tomorrow’s post will feature an “Acapella” of me on acoustic playing this song with some great musicians (and a sweet vocalist!!) from, amazingly, around the world!!
Some stuff:
Tips!! Tips for songwriters
Publishing Administration vs Publisher: (this is an older article by CD Baby, a publishing admin business - no endorsement is implied, but it is informative - for balance, I’ll find something from Distrokid for tomorrow)
Made me laugh:
B# and you’ll C it….
See You Tomorrow!!
Cheers and keep playing!!
