No Bonus Round last week.
So for the next 3(ish) months I’m going to cut back to one main post per week on Fridays. I’m not sure the Thursday posts are that valuable anyway, but we’ll see. I’ll continue with the Bonus Round and links on Fridays and I’m hoping to have at least a couple of interviews published over the summer as well.
For today, some links that may be helpful, and if there is a topic, Dear Reader, that needs further explanation or clarification, please let me know in the comments and I’ll get some sort of answer, possibly even a correct and helpful one, for you.
Links to things I found interesting this week:
Lyrics and sounds Really interesting look at making lyric choices. It’s somewhat easy to write lyrics that mostly or more or less rhyme, and your lyrics probably say something you’re feeling or thinking of at the time. Then we all usually have to revisit those lyrics for phrasing and meter reasons and probably change some things at least a bit. Here’s where choice comes in: if you have to change a line or a phrase, or even a single word in order to make a syllable count work with a melodic rhythm, you now have some choices to make. Having a framework to guide some of those choices helps, and understanding (or having a passing acquaintance with anyway) the ideas in this article might be useful when lyric choices become frustrating.
Rhythm Guitar Just my opinion, but a good ground level skill for any guitarist playing with other musicians is the ability to play, as this article describes, “rock-solid” rhythm guitar.
