Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “God Only Knows” is (purposely) from the song "God Only Knows”, written by Brian Wilson & Tony Asher and performed by The Beach Boys. It is Track 1 on Side 2 of the album “Pet Sounds”, released in May of 1966 on the Capitol label. Produced by Brian Wilson.

Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
As we noted last week, we lost the Beach Boys multi-talented member and musical legend Brian Wilson. Today’s “A Song To Play” is a well-known, but challenging song, well worth the effort to learn this great tune that’s legendary in the Beach Boys discography.

Some Stuff:

A Song To Play:
4/4 common time, a little quick at 115 Beats Per Minute, Key of EMaj:
…and uses them all and then some! Good song to work on barre chord transitions, and the measures that require a transition to a barre chord are 4 beat measures so you can kinda anticipate the change. As always, if barre chords are a challenge, start slow and work up to a tempo you’re comfortable with. Most of all…
…have fun!!

[Verse 1: Carl Wilson]
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
[Refrain: Carl Wilson]
God only knows what I'd be without you
[Verse 2: Carl Wilson]
If you should ever leave me
Well, life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
[Refrain: Carl Wilson]
God only knows what I'd be without you
[Interlude: Carl Wilson, Brian Wilson, and Bruce Johnston]
Ooh, ooh
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do)
Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do)
Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do)
[Refrain: Carl Wilson]
God only knows what I'd be without you
[Verse 3: Carl Wilson]
If you should ever leave me
Well, life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
[Chorus: Carl Wilson]
God only knows what I'd be without you
[Outro: Carl Wilson with Brian Wilson and Bruce Johnston]
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)

God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)

"God Only Knows" is a magical song. I featured it in my tribute to Brian Wilson last week. Beautiful melody ... ethereal harmony ... incredible arrangement. It is one of my top 5 songs of all time.
