Last week’s rando lyric: The lyric, “The little things go wrong” is from the song "Mostly Water”, written and performed by Bap Kennedy. It was released on the E-squared record label in May of 1998 as Track 9 on the album “Domestic Blues”.
Produced by “The Twangtrust” (Steve Earle, Ray Kennedy)
Musician credits:
Bap Kennedy- acoustic guitar, vocals
Roy M. Huskey Jr.- upright bass
Peter Rowan- mandolin
Jerry Douglas- dobro
Steve Earle- acoustic guitar
Larry Atamanuik- Hammond B-3
Ed. I usually put the musician credits in the “A Song To Play” section, but there are some names among these that should be familiar…

Ed. Apologies, I failed to include the YouTube video after prattling on how useful it is to learning to play the song. Mea Culpa… This update fixes that…
Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
I’m not sure if I ever heard of Bap Kennedy before now, if not, I discovered a unique voice. He passed in 2016, a loss to the music world I think. Today’s “A Song To Play”, “Mostly Water” caught my attention as I was scrolling through songs for last week’s “What I’m Listening2” section. I listened to several of the songs on the “Domestic Blues” album and “Mostly Water” caught my attention for the lyrics, but also some unique aspects I’ll cover in the “A Song To Play” section below.

Some Stuff:

A Song To Play:
4/4 Common time, Key of AMajor, a quick 143 BPM - looking at the chord structure, it seems like it would get a bit boring - 3 chords, mostly repeated pattern, AMajor, EMajor, DMajor, with a couple of passages that don’t follow that pattern. The tempo is what makes it interesting (to me, your mileage may vary…) - I had to work a bit to stay on the beat at first, but it kinda settles into a nice groove - and the repeated E>D changes can keep you a bit off balance. Not a challenge for intermediate and expert level guitarists after a couple of run-throughs, but that’s when the lyrics make it fun after all. Try getting the chord changes down then singing along. Just enough to make it kinda fun, then the lyrics help - no verses, choruses, bridge, middle eight to deal with, just play it through, and…
…have fun!!

Shout all you want It doesn’t matter Don’t you know that I am mostly water Seventy percent Don’t worry about the rent The rest of me is finding it harder Why are you always realistic? Why do you always go ballistic? The little things go wrong We’re here and then we’re gone You go on and on Come on, come on, come one, now Shout all you want It doesn’t matter Don’t you know that I am mostly water Seventy per cent Don’t worry about the rent The rest of me is finding it harder This could be my last day I’m too young There’ll be thousands more just like this one The little things go wrong You just go on and on We’re here and then we’re gone Come on, come on, come one, now Shout all you want It doesn’t matter Don’t you know that I am mostly water Shout all you want It doesn’t matter Don’t you know that I am mostly water Shout all you want It doesn’t matter Don’t you know that I am mostly water Seventy percent Don’t worry about the rent The rest of me is finding it harder Why are you always realistic? Why do you always go ballistic?
