Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “Thinking one thought only” is from the song "Heart Full Of Soul”, performed by The Yardbirds. Written by Graham Gouldman, it was released as a single in July 1965 (US), then as Track 5 on side 1 of the album “Having a Rave Up with the Yardbirds,”, released November, 1965. Produced by Giorgio Gomelsky (Ed - to my knowledge, he did not play viola on the record or album, nor did anyone else… - that’s an inside reference to the previous two week’s Michael Acoustic “Rando Lyrics” songs…).
The Yardbirds, 1966. From left: Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Chris Dreja, Keith Relf, and Jim McCarty
So, what do you do when Eric Clapton leaves your band? Get Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page to replace him!
(Ed. - At least there are some mic and guitar cords in the scenes……)

From Genius: ““Heart Full of Soul” was the second hit single released by The Yardbirds. Like its predecessor, “For Your Love”, this song was written by Graham Gouldman, who would later become the founder of 10cc. This song is notorious for its fuzzy guitar riff (played by Jeff Beck). The group originally intended for the riff to be played on a sitar, but the session musician they hired was not able to play in 4/4 time, leading Beck to play the riff on the electric guitar.”

This Week’s Documentary Film Recommendation:
On Amazon Prime (may be elsewhere as well) - “Tom Petty: Somewhere You Feel Free - The Making Of Wildflowers”
Things I Found On Social Media:
Ed. 1. Upper Left: The Mark Knopfler concert should be viewable on YouTube later today (June 7)
The middle left picture had a caption that got cut off. That’s Jimi Hendrix jamming with the Monkees - Mike Nesmith to his left, pretty sure that’s Peter Tork across from him, and Mickey Dolenz took the picture. Almost unbelievably now, Mr. Hendrix opened for The Monkees on tour in 1967.
Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
For Today:
The Yardbirds were an amazing band during the five years (1963-1968) of their original configuration(s), with three of the world’s most famous guitar players in the band at various times (Mark Knopfler was only 14 at the time the band formed, or it could have been 4 of the best…just sayin’…).
So this song, which had been stuck in my head for a couple of weeks is…
…A Song To Play…

[Verse 1]
Sick at heart and lonely
Deep in dark despair
Thinking one thought only
"Where is she, tell me where?"
[Pre-Chorus]
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea
[Chorus]
And I know
That if she had me back again
I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
And I know
If she had me back again
I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul
[Verse 2]
She's been gone such a long time
Longer than I can bear
But if she says she wants me
Tell her that I'll be there
[Pre-Chorus]
And if she says to you
She don't love me
Just give her my message
Tell her of my plea
[Chorus]
And I know
That if she had me back again
I would never make her sad
I've got a heart full of soul

“It’s never really final - you just run out of things you can bear to change…”
I love the idea that Gouldman was just casually writing some of the best songs of the 60s and he was barely out of school! Great piece
As a lifetime member of the Yardbirds and JJ Cale Fan Clubs, I approve!
