Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “And a funky bunch of friends” is from the song "Jesus Was a Capricorn (Owed to John Prine)”, by Kris Kristoferson from the album “Jesus Was A Capricorn” released in 1972. Written by Mr. Kristofferson, and released as a single, the song and album were somewhat less than successful at first, but with the release of the final song on the album, “Why Me”, that single and the album went to #1 on the country charts. Produced by Fred Foster. Ed: Wikipedia Article "Jesus Was A Capricorn"
Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
Mr. Kris Kristofferson and Mr. John Prine were two of a kind in the music world: good guys with a mutual respect for one another, often a rarity in the biz. I thought this would be a good way to showcase that. I’ve wondered if the title was a sorta tongue-in-cheek homophone* - was it “owed” to John Prine, or maybe was it an “ode” to John Prine? Probably never know, but it would make me chuckle out loud if maybe there was a bit of sly humor in the title…

4/4 common time, a quick 176 BPM, Key of GMajor, but with all the ii- chords played as non-diatonic AMaj chords.
Ed. Definitely makes things simpler and every once in a while a fella just needs to give the middle finger to convention…

The fact is I have a couple of very prolific folks that I follow, Mr. Griff Hamlin of Blues Guitar Unleashed, and Mr. Marty Dodson and Mr. Clay Mills from Songtown.com. Both are great sources, but it’s easy to fall behind because they both post lots of good stuff. So I’m going to catch up with both, if you’re playing, just starting out playing, or like all of us looking to learn a few new tricks and licks, check these out:

This Week’s Conversation With Mika, The Cat:
Ed. No conversation today, sometimes a girl just wants to curl up in her favorite Amazon box safe space and catch a few zzzzs without being bothered…
Cheers and keep playing!!

“It’s never really final - you just run out of things you can bear to change…”
Thanks, Michael, for the link to my Keaggy piece! This is how far behind I am in my inbox reads! I love the Mika-in-a-box! How long before pet stores stop selling "cat toys" and such, and just start selling boxes of various sizes?! I'm still waiting for the brave cat-owner to simply place a thimble on the floor, and see what happens! Let's see just how far this "if I fits, I sits" thing goes!!
Those "Jesus was a Capricorn" lyrics are pretty amazing. I thought that might have been Rita Coolidge on the album cover, and sure enough.
My cat loves amazon boxes too. Wonder if there's some catnip in the cardboard.
