Rando lyrics: Seems like a good week to chill, so no rando lyrics today - back next week with my favorite New Year's Eve song
Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “Been putting up a real good fight There were times I thought you'd win” is from the Kenny Chesney (featuring Grace Potter) song “You and Tequila” which is Track 4 on the 2010 album “Hemingway’s Whisky”. (The song was) “written by Matraca Berg and Deana Carter, and recorded by American country music artist Kenny Chesney. It was released in May 2011 as the fourth single from his album Hemingway's Whiskey (2010). Chesney's version of the song features a guest vocal from Grace Potter, lead singer of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
“Chesney and Potter's version of the song is set in the key of G♭ major with a vocal range from G♭3 to E♭5. The main chord pattern is G♭5-G♭/B♭-B♭sus2-G♭5.[6]” (Ed. That bit of seeming trivia will be important further down.)

Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
For Today:
Yeah, I know - it’s Christmas and everyone’s doing Christmas music and “deck them halls and all that stuff“…. There’s a great, if perhaps a bit unconventional Christmas playlist at the bottom in the What I’m Listening 2 section, plenty to keep you merry and bright there. Today we’re learning a Kenny Chesney song…
I love this! Kenny Chesney stops by a Key West Bar, plays a song, forgets some words, the crowd helps him out. Pretty gutsy - I’m sure he plays the song a lot at concerts, but likely has a screen with scrolling lyrics, chords, cues and whatnot at his feet or somewhere close in front of him during shows.
Different thing to just walk in and play and sing it. Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool. If you you open the YouTube below, make sure you scroll down to read the comments - cool and funny…
A Song To Play
Not surprisingly, “You And Tequila” is today’s song to play. Ed. - Did you note above in the Wikipedia article how the song is in GbMaj?
Checking in with our old friend, the Circle Of Fifths, look at the bottom of the circle for the Key of Gb - it’s the one with six, count ‘em, 6 sharps in it. That’s a lot of sharps….
Kinda explains why in the credits for the studio version, a couple of Nashville “hired gun” session guitarists, Pat Buchanan and Kenny Greenberg are listed as the main acoustic and electric guitarists, with Mr. Chesney as the lead vocalist.
On the other hand, Mr. Chesney is no slouch guitarist, as evidenced in his live, apparently impromptu appearance in a not-just-any Key West bar, doing a great job on guitar and the best he can offhand with the lyrics to one of likely dozens of songs that he does in concerts and rehearsals - and a thirteen year old song that he didn’t write to boot. Add to that, this is:
“Captain Tony's Saloon is a bar in Key West, Florida, United States, located at 428 Greene Street.
The bar has been patronized through the years by many well-known artists, writers and celebrities. When a celebrity visits, a barstool is added that is painted with that patron's name.[citation needed] The bar includes barstools painted with the names of Ernest Hemingway, Truman Capote, Jimmy Buffett, Shel Silverstein, John Prine, John F. Kennedy and Harry Truman, Mike Leach, among others.”

So, pretty nice job, I think.
It looks to me like he’s playing the chords that are commonly used in his live performances, and I can’t blame him there either. With the crowd and such, there’s just no point to making things worse for yourself, so good for him - only the most rabid fans are likely to know the live song is in a different key from the recorded version anyway, and he certainly sounds good in either.
Here’s a link to the “Official Video” chords, if you’re feeling like a challenge…You And Tequila Chordify
If you’re like me and just as happy with Mr. Chesney’s live/concert version, with chords in the Key of GMaj, here ya go…
Watch what he does in the live video to pick up his strum pattern if you don’t fingerpick.
Lyrics below, a cool song to learn over your Christmas holiday if (like me) you’re in the northern states and thinkin’ Key West might be a real nice place to forget some song lyrics right about now… Just sayin’…
[Verse 1] Baby, here I am again Kicking dust in the canyon wind Waiting for that sun to go down Made it up Mulholland Drive Hell bent on getting high High above the lights of town [Chorus] Because you and tequila make me crazy Run like poison in my blood One more night could kill me, baby One is one too many, one more is never enough [Verse 2] Thirty days and thirty nights Been putting up a real good fight There were times I thought you'd win It's so easy to forget The bitter taste the morning left Swore I wouldn't go back there again [Chorus] You and tequila make me crazy Run like poison in my blood One more night could kill me, baby One is one too many, one more is never enough [Verse 3] When it comes to you Oh, the damage I could do It's always your favorite sins That do you in [Chorus] You and tequila make me crazy Run like poison in my blood One more night could kill me, baby One is one too many, one more is never enough [Outro] Never enough You and tequila You and tequila (make me crazy)
Other Voices:
Ed. - While both of these links to some of the “other voices” on Substack are important, the first one, from Mr. McKenzie, one of the founders of Substack, settles the debate over what will be censored and what won’t on this platform. Unless the content of a post is a call for violence, Substack will not censor content, leaving it to the community to openly and peacefully, if fervently, debate that content. This, IMHO is the correct decision, and we bid farewell to those content creators who for whatever reason, could not live with it. The answer to unpopular free speech is always more free speech, the only caveat applies to calls for immediate violence against others. I applaud the management of Substack for this decision, it is in keeping with the best principles of this grand experiment we call America.
If some Substack authors post content that is offensive to you, you always have the option to mute or block that author, in which case you’re the censor for yourself, but not others - and that’s perfectly fine, it’s what those buttons are for. I’m more than happy to shut up (for myself) those who I consider stupid and not worth my time.
Some Links for today:
Sorry, folks - “we’re runnin’ a little bit hot tonight” - gonna save the links I was going to post today for next week, cuz we’re already over the email length limit and that would just make it worse. In the meantime, please enjoy this video from Mr. Tony Van Veen of Disc Makers while it’s still timely….

Have a Merry Christmas, Michael! Look forward to next year!
I've already sent the "Die Hard" Christmas tree ornament instructions to my son. He went bonkers. I think he'll actually do it today.
As for Mika, my cat Loki abides. (sent you pic via email)
Merry Christmas, Michael!
