Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “With words we build and words we break” is from the song "Lost Horizons”, performed by The Gin Blossoms. Written by Doug Hopkins, it is Track 1 on the album “New Miserable Experience”, released in August of 1992 on the A&M label. Produced by John Hampton & Gin Blossoms.
Ed. Interesting note, 2 different album covers:

The original, on the left above, was the album cover for the first release of the album. The probably more familiar album cover on the right is from the 1993 re-release of the album.

Welcome to The Regular Friday post!
It’s Spring! And what could be a better celebration of spring than…A Spring Head Cold! Yeah, baby! So, without irony or forethought, this week’s choice of album titles became somewhat prophetic, and although the experience is not particularly new, it is decidedly miserable….
Meh, I’ll be fine - heated blanket and plenty of fluids, various analgesics, and avoidance of people I could be a danger to….

Some Stuff:

A Song To Play:
Ed. Gin Blossoms were always a favorite. The phrase “Gin Blossoms” may (or may not, I dunno) be British slang for the ruddy coloring of the cheeks of long time alcoholics. But apparently it’s also the name of a cocktail made with gin. So, I dunno.
I always thought they were a British band because I looked up the origins of the name once. Apparently, though, they’re from Tempe, AZ…..
….at least it’s not “Scottsdale”….
From Wikipedia:
“New Miserable Experience is the second studio album by alternative rock band Gin Blossoms, released on August 4, 1992. The album was released to little fanfare and relatively lackluster reviews. However, nearly a year after its release the lead single "Hey Jealousy" entered the top 40.[1] With "Found Out About You" following a few months later, the album eventually reached multi-platinum status.[2]”
Ed. Ironically, while “Lost Horizons” and several other songs - among them some of the best known Gin Blossoms hits such as “Hey Jealousy” and “Found Out About You”, were written by the Gin Blossoms original lead guitarist Doug Hopkins, Hopkins was fired from the band after recording the tracks for the original “New Miserable Experience” album, but prior to the album release. Hopkins died by suicide about a year after the album’s release.

…have fun!!
Ed. - Though there is only one barre chord (Bm) in this song, there are other shapes/ways to play barre chords, and you can find them at my go-to resource for chord diagrams at this link: JGuitar.com

Genius Lyrics: Link: Lost Horizons Ed. Interestingly, although the title is “Lost Horizons”, the closest lyric reference is “last horizons” - the word “lost” doesn’t appear in the song…
The last horizons I can see
Are filled with bars and factories
And in them all, we fight to stay awake
I'll drink enough of anything
To make this world look new again
I'm drunk, drunk, drunk in the gardens and the graves
She had nothing left to say
So she said she loved me
And I stood there grateful for the lie
I'll drink enough of anything
To make this girl look new again
I'm drunk, drunk, drunk in the gardens and the graves
Turn summer trees to bones and ice
Turn insect songs against the night
With words we build and words we break
I'm drunk, drunk, drunk in the gardens and the graves
Maybe I could use you to reassure myself
I wouldn't wish this indecision on anybody else
I'll drink enough of anything to make this world look new again
And when the sin smiles, how could it be wrong?
The last horizons I can see
Are now resigned to memories
I never thought I'd still be here today
I'll drink enough of anything
To make myself look new again
I'm drunk, drunk, drunk in the gardens and the graves
