First - good news for Android users!!
Android App For SubStack is now available - click this link to access the download link from the Google Play site.
Fall is fast approaching, but not quite here yet (heedless of the calendar!) in The Upper Left Corner, so Thursday posts are back! When I started this Substack over a year ago, I used Thursday posts as a teaser for the main Friday posts. They gradually morphed into a place where I could include links to other SubStackers or articles that highlight or further explain some of the themes we explore in the main Friday posts. I think that’s the approach to continue, and I’ll use Thursdays to provide links to things that complement whatever topic we’re currently in, or something else entirely. Or not.
You don’t know!
But neither do I, so as I run across articles, tips and tricks, interesting stuff, other SubStackers, etc., I’ll put them in these posts and save Fridays for few, if any, links - and keep Fridays for more thematic stuff. I’ve heard from a few folks out there, and I always appreciate questions, comments and such. One of the themes for Thursdays will be anything I receive a comment/question about that I can further illuminate or point someone to in order to answer or highlight a question. I won’t be identifying or calling out anyone, so feel free to ask or comment (see anonymized email link in the next paragraph)!
Why This Post Has No Subtitle. Seriously. Probably Not Kidding Around Just To Get You To Read This Paragraph:
Also, no Bonus Round on Thursdays, hardly anyone guesses anyway, and I’m sorta just using them as a “Listening Widely” spot to highlight acoustic music, or really any genre that complements the day’s topic. What I will do on Thursdays is post or highlight reader generated content such as an Acapella, or an .mp3, .m4a, or .aiff (or any format SubStack will support). I’d like to keep that acoustic guitar themed and if you include lyrics or vocals - keep ‘em clean! I’ll preview and post what you send, but specify if you want attribution or anonymity - you can email to
"Anonymized" Email - cut/paste: marks_forces0o@icloud.com (I’ll see your return email address, but won’t post or identify it or you unless you specifically say I can)
- and especially let me know if your work is copyrighted - officially with the copyright office or unofficially - but let me know so I can credit and acknowledge your copyright if you want me to - I’ll attribute with “Used By Permission”!
So, first, links to a couple of SubStacks I follow and read, because they’re interesting or fun or both:
Earworms And Song Loops - great stuff, and yep, you’ll hear some earworms!!
Fog Chaser - Fabulous ambient music to chill with!
Next, a few weeks ago I promised to post more on the problem of starting out on a shoestring budget. Here’s a link to a article with some tips on that subject relating to home studios:
Budget Home Studio - lots of other good stuff on that site, too.
A couple of posts back I posted my (totally tongue-in-cheek) Seven Stages Of Songwriter Grief. As artists and songwriters it easy to doubt ourselves and it certainly doesn’t help to receive criticism that isn’t at all helpful. Here’s one of my recurring heroes, Mr. Tony Van Veen, CEO of Disc Makers/CD Baby with a great take on handling it wisely:
And finally for today, another Disc Makers great informational article.
Cheers, and keep playing!!
