Last week’s rando lyrics: The lyric, “I don't care, no, that's no big surprise” is from the song "You Got The Silver”, by The Rolling Stones . Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it is Track 7 on the December 1969 album “Let It Bleed”. Produced by Jimmy Miller.

News from around the “biz” for today - From Music Business World this week:
From Music Business Worldwide:
Johnson & Johnson Sued For Copyright Infringement - Lawsuit alleges copyright infringement of 30 songs by the company.
Copyright - More on the lawsuit regarding alleged use of songs without compensation to “teach” AI.
Satellite Streaming Services Rate Brouhaha - Music rights organization BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc - they’re a PRO - a “performing rights organization”, like ASCAP and SESAC) has filed suit against SiriusXM. Note SiriusXM is a satellite streamer and must pay royalties for songs used on their streaming service, and apparently they want to pay less than they do now. AM/FM terrestrial radio (WKRP in Cincinnati, for example….) doesn’t pay royalties for music - your music, my music, anyone’s music, but satellite (subscription) streaming services do. Note that it’s illegal for commercial, terrestrial radio stations to be paid for airing songs played without acknowledging payment - that’s “payola” - (Ed. - “Payola, in the music industry, is the illegal practice of paying a commercial radio station to play a song without the station disclosing the payment. Under U.S. law, a radio station must disclose songs they were paid to play on the air as sponsored airtime.” Source: Wikipedia - Ed. see also the WKRP episode with Mr. Carlson’s “foot powder”… S1, Ep 14 “Johnny Comes Back” - episode aired Feb 26, 1979, Source: IMDB)
Some Stuff
I think this article sorta belongs in this section….. Link: >Keef Meets Merle Haggard<

Those last 4 images are from an X(Twitter) account @othingstodo_com. Striking images, mostly AI, but some photos, wallpaper, irreverent survey type questions (Ed. FTR - I never participate in those…) as well - beautiful and interesting stuff, and this from a guy who is kind of an AI hater….
Some Links For Today
I’m moving the links bits around and interspersing them by theme - the biz, etc. I think they weren’t getting much love stuck together at the bottom - I’ll do links to articles that follow a specific theme - songwriting and theory, guitars and playing techniques, recording, gigs, gear, etc each week so it’s a bit more limited
Today it’s Gear (yes, Carvin Audio again - it’s good stuff!):
Tips For A First Sound System - You’ll never guess the brand recommendation…
Play Gigs Without A Cabinet - sorta requires the house to have a system you can plug in to, but aside from that….
ED. None of these result in compensation to me in any way, and I’m not endorsing (no compensation, but well, yeah, I kinda am endorsing them…. for free, though) any of them, but some of my readers may find them as interesting as I did…
For Today:
I have to admit I don’t recall ever hearing “You Got The Silver”, though at some point I know I heard the entire Rolling Stones album, “Let It Bleed” and really only remember “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. Meh, getting older will do that, but it does have the advantage of hearing things again as if for the first time!! Yay….
Anyway… I chose today’s song just because I thought I needed to balance the scales with “Keef” a bit. Not that anyone is ever going to overlook Keith Richards, but this was the first Stones song where he was the solo vocalist. Interesting story from Genius:
Link: “>Richards said this song is about his then-girlfriend Anita Pallenberg<. (Ed. Link is from the Genius entry - lots of photos from those days.)
Pallenberg, the blonde German-Italian beauty who had left Brian Jones for Keith Richards two years before, possesses an alluring presence that hovers over a number of the band’s masterpieces: i.e. “Ruby Tuesday”.
Also: “Alongside Keith, Brian Jones is still present – on the autoharp – on this track.”

More from Wikipedia:
“Recorded on 18 February 1969, "You Got the Silver" is the first Stones song to feature guitarist Keith Richards on solo lead vocal throughout. Richards previously sang separate lead vocals on parts of "Something Happened to Me Yesterday" from Between the Buttons and on "Salt of the Earth" from Beggars Banquet. [4]”
And:
"You Got the Silver" was the last Stones recording released with Brian Jones's participation, one of his two appearances on the album. He plays autoharp.

Interestingly, Mr. Richards is credited with acoustic and electric guitars and vocals along with: Drums: Charlie Watts, Bass: Bill Wyman, Autoharp: Brian Jones, Piano and Organ: Nancy Hopkins. Mick Jagger is uncredited for performance, only writing. What does it mean? I dunno, some stories and legends in the Wikipedia article. Worth a read. And, it’s today’s…
…A Song To Play…
Credit: Chordify Link: >You Got The Silver< (Ed. - if you’re at all unsure how to play that Bb, C(dominant)7, or playing the F as an Fadd9, they’re all actually pretty easy in open position - check jguitar.com Link: >Jguitar<)
(Ed. - interesting songwriting from Jagger/Richards - no choruses, no bridge, no middle 8, no intro or outro. Just verses - play it and sing it.)
Lyrics (From Genius) Link>You Got The Silver<
[Verse 1]
Hey babe, what's in your eyes?
I saw them flashing like airplane lights
You fill my cup, babe, that's for sure
I must come back for a little more
[Verse 2]
You got my heart, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
You got the diamonds from the mine
Well, that's all right, it'll buy some time
[Verse 3]
Tell me, honey, what will I do
When I'm hungry and thirsty too?
I'm feeling foolish, and that's for sure
Just waiting here at your kitchen door
[Verse 4]
Hey baby, what's in your eyes?
Is that the diamonds from the mine?
What's that laughing in your smile?
I don't care, no, I don't care
[Verse 5]
Oh babe, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
You got your love, just leave me blind
I don't care, no, that's no big surprise
