The Wikipedia article I linked to is just crazy. Much more in depth than I could quote - 12 foot tape loops for each of the three musicians - can you imagine the record keeping required to locate one note (out of at least 3 per chord) on each tape loop by each musician just to make one chord change? That alone is incredible! Paid off in a big way for them though. Hope the engineer got a healthy bonus!
