Thanks, Jim - Iβd like to say Mika replies, but she seems to dislike other cats intensely (fur flying fights!!). Really a bitch, but somehow likes (or tolerates, anyway) a couple of dogs that sheβs known for awhile
Hi Michael, thank you for the shout-out in your 'Other Voices' section of this weeks The Regular Friday Post, it's much appreciated. Kit, gear, paraphernalia, stuff, clobber, equipment, set-up, rig β take your pick, it's pretty interchangeable over here. But now I know over your side, it's 'gear'!
Amazing about the Brian Wilson country album! And also amazing about Paul McCartney getting his stolen HΓΆfner back over 50 years later. I'd really love to know exactly how they tracked this bass down. Intriguing!
I just mostly wanted to get the phrase βhere in the coloniesβ in there - makes me laugh! Yes about Brian Wilson, and your thoughts on McCartneyβs bass are right on - my guess is it was a βTell-tale Heartβ sort of thing and the person, searchers and Paul himself likely agreed βno questions askedβ just return the bass. Weβll see, maybe.
I thought your gear list was amazingly well thought out and clearly the product of lots of experience - I know I benefitted and Iβm sure my readers will as well!!
I think that bass(I mean that actual one) is probably the most iconic bass on the planet. How someone kept having it a secret for half a century is just mind-blowing.
I'm glad the gear review was useful to you, I hope you readers enjoy it. All the best to you 'over in the colonies' and talk soon.
This was the latest I saw on it - a few more details that may be at odds with other sources - not sure the url copied correctly, but itβs on the guitarworld site, says it was sort of forgotten in an attic for years, Paul wants to restore it, some damage but apparently repairable
As for Mika.....let's put the best construction on everything, and give her the ole feline benefit o' the doubt: She's trying to protect you and capture what she hopes is a tasty invader, both!
Thanks for that Brian Wilson album info....I had no idea he had a country album from so long ago (apparently) in the can! I've slapped all that onto a new post page, and we'll see what happens....if I can find some more tasty morsels (I feel ya, Mika!!) on the album.....many of my FB friends are BB- and Brian-adjacent!
There was news last night about a conservatorship for his family following his wifeβs passing. Sounds like the album is already in the can, but not sure what all the rest of it means.
The McCartney Horner bass return is kind of a big deal as well - late breaking last night
And, it sounds like the producer is not being revealed. I have to make sure I'm reading it all accurately, and then see what else is out there! I'm all about Paul, but as not an instrument guy, that came in 2nd to Brian's news! I'll dig into that bass I took.........uh, I mean his newly-found bass, shortly!
I think in the big scheme the Brian news on all fronts is bigger. The McCartney bass story is kinda big because itβs the actual instrument heard on many of their early hits

Another banger, Michael.
Loki says hi to Mika!

Hofner bass - stupid autocorrect
