Didn't The Beatles use a studio equipment guy to bang on an anvil on "Maxwell?" I seem to recall that from The Beatles updated "Let It Be" documentary a couple of years ago.

Yes! In the article I linked to (link is in the paragraph preceding the "A Song To Play" section), there's this gem:

"Each time they ran through the song, their affable longstanding road manager and personal assistant Mal Evans took on percussion duties. Sitting cross-legged in a director’s chair, in front of the anvil, with a clipboard on his knee and grinning from ear to ear, Evan’s would dutifully hit the anvil with a large hammer on the first two beats of the bar in the chorus. "

That article (the link is titled "Worst Track...Ever") - click on it for much more behind the scenes stuff on the song.

That sad story about Clapton's drummer and co-writer for Layla is pretty interesting.

Good guitar-ish stuff Michael.

Love all the Beatle stuff.

We both have the Beatles Chord Songbook.

Didn't hear about Greg Kihn. Did you know that he wrote several popular horror novels? I didn't even know he passed away last week. The "Breakup Song" arpeggios are fun to play.

I did not know Greg Kihn was an author as well! I was at that Beach Boys/Greg Kihn band concert 42 years ago. Yikes - that sentence was painful….Just got another Beatles book - Abbey Road years - that one was used off of Amazon, but the chord book (which is uber cool) is new. Diving into it now!
