I was a latecomer to R.E.M. Surprising, because I live about 35 miles from Athens, GA. But better late than never, right. (I also live about 90 minutes from Macon, and have made several pilgrimages to the "Big House" and the birthplaces of Otis Redding and Little Richard.

Anyway, I suppose R.E.M.'s unique stylings and songwriting prowess that did it for me. I saw an interview with Mike Mills, who explained their various processes of writing/recording and came to appreciate their ability to successfully collaborate over 30 years. I also came to appreciate Michael Stipe's voice as a fifth instrument to this collaboration.

I think I would still love REM, even if you hadn’t played them so frequently during my childhood, though maybe not as much. We recently covered “whats the frequency Kenneth?” On Acapella and Pete commented that the last 5 songs I’d done we are all REM. They have a lot of desperate sounding, minor cord heavy songs that appeal to me, I seriously love so much of their music. And also, I Love all the songs they sing with the B-52s lady. Heaven.

Also, I got a fever, and the only prescription is more reverb. I love reverb.
